For the past few days, whenever I access these forums at http://windowssecrets.com/forums/, i get a warning from my AV program (Emsisoft Internet Security) about an attempted connection to a malicious host called home.earthlink.net. The warning says that the connection attempt was automatically blocked, and then the forum pages open normally. What is Earthlink? Is this a false positive? Do I want or need it? I have the options to either always allow, or always block, so I would not see the warning again.

This is what a Google search came up for that – https://www.reddit.com/domain/home.earthlink.net/

Always block, you don’t need it.
EarthLink is a legit US public ISP, been around 20+ years. So of no use to you in Oz

AskWoody LoungerOctober 1, 2016 at 6:54 pm #1580075Thanks Lugh, that’s the information I wanted. Have set it to always block, and now I am not seeing the warning any more. Because it only started happening a few days ago, I’m guessing it was triggered by an updated malware definition. But still curious to know why the WS website wants to connect to it…??

AskWoody_MVPOctober 1, 2016 at 11:28 pm #1580095Hey Y’all,
I’m an earthlink subscriber and home.earthlink.com/~userid is where earthlink hosts home pages foe it’s subscribers. It is not a malicious site in and of its self but that doesn’t mean some of the home pages don’t contain bad stuff.
HTH
P.S. posting from Sequoia National Park.

We’re actually in Kings Canyon st the John Muir Lodge but I figured Seguoia would be more familiar to most.

Actually here in Australia we have “Kings Gorge”, not “Kings Canyon”.
“Canyon” is an American term – in Australia a “canyon” is more properly termed a “gorge”.
