Does anyone know how to manually uninstall IE5.5sp2, at least to the point that I could reinstall IE5.5sp1? I made the unfortunate error of going to IE6 before I realized what had happened to the handling of PDF files. I then uninstalled IE6, which put me back to IE5.5sp2 (with the same PDF file handling problem) which will not uninstall by itself, nor let me install IE5.5sp1. The only suggestion I’ve had to date is to format my hard drive and start over. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

PDF files won’t download automatically in 5.5sp2 or 6. Some PDF files will download if you R click them and use “save target as”. Others (I think their loacation is embedded in script) won’t download either way.

I used IE5.5 when it first came out and the IE 6.0 on 2 different machines and still using it. I just tested 12 different PDF files from Adobe site on both machines and they all opened with out a problem. I am running Acrobat Reader 4.0 , IE 6.0 beta on a Win 2K machine and Acrobar Reader 5.0, IE 6.0 and Windows XP (RTM) on the other.

I am running W2k. With IE5.5sp2 and Acrobat Reader 4.0, I was having the reported problems. Following your advice I installed Acrobat Reader 5.0 and am now a happy camper. I can now read PDF files directly as well as those that are embedded in script. Thanks.
