A user has a 60megabyte Word 2000 mail merge document , 1300 pages, that freezes at about page 933 on two different PC’s running Windows 2000 when attempting to print it. Both machines are at least P-III 500s with at least 128mb RAM and at least 400 MB free disk space. Printer is an HP4000. User is mad, help! Thanks.

May be this is a little too obvious, but why not send to print p1-650, then when that is complete, p651-1300?

At what point does it freeze?
Formulating what to print, or after it has started spooling?
If the latter, 400Mb may not be enough. Click the printer icon after printing has started it should show the size of the spool file as it grows.

If the Mailmerge data is only used on page 1, maybe you could only print those pages and print the other 1299 pages via the copymachine

See MS KB article Q168804 — WD97 Operating Parameters and Limits.

Maximum file size for Word documents is 32MB, excluding graphics and some other elements. Break that file up!

The article is about WD97 so this may not apply to WD2K as you have, but I suspect you have exceeded the max file size for Word documents even in 2K.
