I’ve used Maxthon Browser and Internet Explorer sparringly. Maxthon because of some neat features I’ve not seen with IE. I’ve not have any problem with both browser until now. I’ve long created a favorites link of Woody’s Lounge and was connecting from this link without any problem but lately everytime I click the link it just redirect the page to the Maxthon Homepage. Even if I cut and pasted the link onto the Address area the page would just be redirected to the Maxthon Homepage. Even clicking it from the http://www.worp.com links would just lead to the Maxthon Homepage. Tried cleaning the Temporary Internet files, cookies, history just to see if it’ll help but to no avail. Even from IE the Woody’s Lounge would redirect to the Maxthon Homepage. Uninstalling Maxthon though would straighten the link to the lounge. Anyone have experiences this weirdness? or Any workarounds?

AskWoody LoungerJune 25, 2005 at 2:28 pm #955948Does the URL change or does the Maxthon home page appear under the URL http://www.wopr.com/? In that case, it could be that your hosts file has a mistaken entry which associates wopr.com or http://www.wopr.com with the IP address of the Maxthon site. Not sure which version of Windows you have, but the hosts file (no extension) is usually under c:windows; in XP, it is under C:WINDOWSSYSTEM32DRIVERSETC and can be opened in Notepad.

AskWoody LoungerJune 27, 2005 at 12:38 am #956092My hosts file when I checked is still the generic version with just one line 127.0.0.1 Localhost. I could get to http://www.wopr.com no problem but as I click the link to Woody’s Lounge I will be redirected to the Maxthon Homepage. The same is through now here at my office which is really strange. My office and home internet provider are totally different company. Last night I tried to uninstall Maxthon and everything connects as usual but then suddenly I’m redirected to another useless site “shutdowninternet.com” . I’ve run Norton, spware and trojan software but could not find any. clue why this is happening. Any further help is appreciated. Thanks!

AskWoody LoungerJune 28, 2005 at 11:23 pm #956570Have you run a spyware / anti-viral check on all your PC systems you use to contact the lounge? Yes Iam constantly running spyware / anti-viral softwares and not using Maxthon to access the lounge. I’ve not been successful connecting from my home pc and still being redirected to the shutdown… deadend link. This response is generated from my office pc. Iam sorry if I am unknowingly causing some trouble for you Claude.
I have a cable connection at home and unlike adsl connections the ip assigned to me will not change upon reboot of my router/gateway. It would stick a while before being reassigned a new one. Currently this is my assigned ip 59.171.159.119 (with my dns suffix as – sugnm1.kt.home.ne.jp). Is the attack you mentioned coming from this source? What exactly Maxthon is doing to the lounge if I may ask?
Again I would like to fix any problem if it is coming from my end but I also need expert help from the lounge.

AskWoody LoungerJune 27, 2005 at 6:02 am #956111The Maxthon Browser has been one of the reasons the lounge went under in the past few weeks. It was constantly trying to add posts without being logged in and caused a lot of grief in here.
Therefore, I’ve banned that browser in the lounge. It is one of many browsers and robots which destabilized the lounge and are banned.
Nothing personal of course, I’m not saying it’s your fault but the browsers.

AskWoody LoungerJune 29, 2005 at 8:09 am #956623I’m still in the dark. What sort of attack are you experiencing? Could you possibly give me an idea what to look for. So far my adware, virus, trojan scan did not produce any alert. I’m just using two puter one at home and one in the office. If I can connect from the office it must be my home puter. Could you assist me on where to go next or what to look for to solve this annoyance. TIA.

AskWoody LoungerJune 30, 2005 at 8:20 am #956920Yesterday, each time you were active in the Lounge, the server was attacked from your IP (a process tried to add posts without being logged in, this causes an error on the server). When you were posting your reply today, there were no such attacks.
I don’t think the Google toolbar is the culprit – many Loungers, including me, are using it without problems for the Lounge. But perhaps the Google accelerator had something to do with it. Have you changed anything else? -

AskWoody LoungerJune 30, 2005 at 8:27 am #956921I’ve outlined all the things I’ve done including my earlier post today. So far that’s it. I hope things would be better from now on. Incidentally is Maxthon still causing any problem? I’m not using it though just asking. Thanks for all the assistance as alway.
But still crossing my fingers!!!!!

AskWoody LoungerJune 30, 2005 at 10:41 am #956962It’s possible to exclude the Lounge from being affected by the Google Web Accelerator. Please see post 494082 in Words From On High.
