    Good Evening!

Quick question: My new laptop (with Windows 10 Pro) was recently upgraded to Windows 10 version 2004 – May 2020 Update.  Prior to the upgrade, when clicking on Settings>Update & Security>Windows Update>Advanced options, I had the option to temporarily pause updates for up to 35 days or defer installing feature updates for up to 365 days or quality updates for 35 days.  After the May 2020 update, I still have the option to pause updates for up to 35 days, but no longer have the two options to defer feature update and quality update installations. Are those options no longer available?  Or, are those options only available when a feature update is available as an optional download?

    Let me know your thoughts.

Those GUI options are no longer available. Use GPEdit.

Not to be niave, but how do I use GPEdit?

Any information you can provide would be helpful!

        Stay safe.

You can only use GPEdit if you have the Pro (not Home) version of Windows, but in your case that’s OK.  Type GPEDIT into the search box and Enter.  A window will open called “Local Group Policy Editor”.   Expand Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates  > Windows Components > Windows Update > Windows Update for Business.  The first parameter in there, “Select when Preview Builds……” sets the deferral period for “Feature Updates”.  Double-click it and enter the number of days to defer.  The second parameter, “Select when Quality Updates are received” sets the deferral for the monthly updates.  Again, enter the number of days to defer.  Then OK out of it and close the window.

A good rule of thumb is to set 60 days (two months) for the first one, and 14 days (two weeks), for the second – but it’s your choice.  If you want to install updates before the deferral period has elapsed, just go back in and change the number of days to zero.
