McAfee Security Scan Plus Uninstall’s Exclusive Offer

I used my Cox ISP’s security software (McAfee) until it was discontinued last year.   Once it was no longer supported, I uninstalled the software & reverted to Windows Security.

Last week, all of a sudden, the Security Scan Plus updater started randomly popping up over my open apps.  I went to uninstall McAfee via Add/Remove programs, but the uninstall button just launched an advertisement for an exclusive offer.    Problem is there was no way to get past in and complete the uninstall [A].

So, I went to task manager and disabled the scheduler in my Startup apps.

Has anyone else experienced this?  If so, did you find an alternate way to uninstall rather than just disable?

According to the solution for the 07-Sep-2022 MS Answers topic How Do I Remove McAfee Security Scan Plus from Widows 11? running the McAfee Consumer Product Removal (MCPR) tool, followed by a system restart, should remove this scanner.

Your image suggests you have other remnants of your McAfee antivirus on your system so you should run this removal tool, regardless.

If the MCPR tool doesn’t fix the problem post back and let us know what McAfee remnants remain on your system in Task Scheduler and/or your Start menu (Note: For Win 11 you might have to click “All Apps” if the shortcut isn’t listed under your Pinned or Recommended apps on the Start menu).
