    Hi,

I am pretty sure that I was able to use the MEAN function in Excel 2003 and in Excel 2007. However, I was not able to find it in Excel 2010. Does anyone know why it was left out and how I can add the MEAN function to the group of statistical functions in Excel 2010?

    Thank you.

No mean() in my 2003 or 2007 – are you sure you were not using a user-defined function or a statistics add-in?

If you were, you need to copy over your old startup sheet or install the add-in. I know many people were unhappy with Excel’s stats functions and such libraries were commonly used.

Search for MEAN in Excel 2007 returns hits under Statistical Functions. Some examples:

      AVERAGE function
Returns the average (arithmetic mean) of the arguments

      Also listed:
AVERAGEIF Returns the average (arithmetic mean) of all the cells in a range that meet a given criteria
AVERAGEIFS Returns the average (arithmetic mean) of all cells that meet multiple criteria.
      GEOMEAN Returns the geometric mean
      HARMEAN Returns the harmonic mean

Thank you for your responses. I lthink that average is used instead of its synonym, mean.
