Like a good citizen, I squirreled away a copy of the Media Creation Tool for Win 10 1909, as advised by Woody. I have done this in the past with previous versions, and had no issues.

However, I just tried running it and all I get is a message telling me ‘A newer version of this tool is available. You must download and run the latest version to continue.’

Is there anyway around this so that I can install or upgrade to 1909, rather than jumping to 2004 (which i don’t want to do)?

It’s not the Media Creation Tool you need to squirrel away, it’s the ISO.

The MCT is simply a download tool which downloads the ISO of the latest version (which is v2004 now). Yes, I know, it has the version in the file name, but that is misleading.

What you need is the ISO of v1909. The ISO is the compressed installer for the Win10 OS. You can get the ISO from Heidoc.net. Download the MS Windows and Office ISO Download Tool. Run the tool on your computer then choose and download the latest ISO of v1909 (it’s a BIG file).
Once you have the ISO, you can install v1909 in two ways.
+ You can right click on the ISO and “Open with” File Explorer. This will mount the ISO as another drive and you double click on setup.exe to do the install. Don’t forget to dismount the ISO when you finish (right click, dismount or eject).
+ Or you can create bootable install media (DVD or Flash drive) and install from there by accessing the bootable media from within your current version and double clicking on setup.exe

Not sure if I fuly understand, when this message about newer version apperas.
Do you get this message when running setup.exe from the USB stick? If yes, it should still work. If you launch the installation, first dialog will appear (I apologize for czech version). Layout is the same.

      MCT

Installation asks for updates I select “Not now” and uncheck the box on the bottom. You should still be able to install “out-of-date” version of Windows 10 like this.

I created MCT 1809 USB stick in the past and I can still use it today.

      Dell Latitude 3420, Intel Core i7 @ 2.8 GHz, 16GB RAM, W10 22H2 Enterprise

      HAL3000, AMD Athlon 200GE @ 3,4 GHz, 8GB RAM, Fedora 29

I believe the 1809 USB you created was the Installer. That can be used at any time because it contains the compressed 1809 version. The USB is not the MCT.

The MCT itself is only a download tool. It will download the current version of Win10 (which is v2004 now) and create a USB stick installer with that version (even it says MediaCreationTool1809.exe).

I believe the User needs the 1909 ISO.

and the only way for OP to get a 1909 ISO now is to use that Windows & Office ISO downloader tool from Heidoc.net

Recommended above – with a link to it.
