Is there any further word on the “ToolBar customizations won’t stay (Excel 2000)” thread from 2001?
    post 62835

I’m having similar problems, starting with trying to remove the WOPR “Tools” items that I won’t need in Excel (Enveloper, Image Extractor, Task Pane Customizer), and other add-ins appearing or disappearing, but not being able to have all of them at the same time. (E.g., the ASAP Utilities, Jan Pieterse’s Name Manager 3.2, the Conditional Sum Wizard, and the Excess Format Cleaner 1.1.)

    I either get:
The three WOPR deleted Tools menu items return, if I don’t do anty othe thread steps.
    – Or –
If I try the listed advice, the WOPR items are gone, but so are most of the other add-ins, too.

I would start (in Excel) looking at Tools, addins and noting all which are checked.

Then I would uncheck them all and start checking them again one at a time. Each time get out of the tools, addins dialog first (and maybe restart Excel too, to be sure). Write down which combinations are giving unexpected results.

The main part of my question is how to remove the three Tools menu WOPR items, which I did not put there in the first place,. nor was given the choice during the installation.

If they could be removed, then everything else works as it should.

Do they have some “behind the scenes” magic that makes them persist? (That is why I’m asking in this forum.)

(What would be nice, if WOPR is in Excel, would be the WOPR WorkBar — hint, hint.)

          view – tololbars – customize
Grab the menu items from the toolbar and drag them off and place them in the sheet where they will “disappear” into the ether.

Being in Tools-Customize, then dragging the WOPR items off the Tools menu gets them off for the current session only.
When I exit and re-start Excel, they are back.

That’s why I was trying the tricks in the old 2001 thread about the matter, with only partial success.

Checkout Jan Karel Pieterse‘s article on Startup Problems especially the poiints about add-ins and startup files to try to track down what is adding them.

Those are the ideas I was trying out before posting here.

What I’m trying to say, politely, is that *I* didn’t put the WOPR items in the Tools menu, so I don’t know what is needed to get them out.

The “usual” methods don’t seem to work — it is not the normal add-in that I have any control over.

(And the WOPR install routine didn’t present me with a choice if I wanted them in Excel or not.)

My thought is that something in your startup is adding it.

What is this “WOPR install Routine” that you are referring to?

The process that happened after I clicked on WOPR2003.exe on the CD.

              It added things like:
              HKCUSoftwareMicrosoftOfficeExcelAddinsEnveloperCOM03.dsrEnveloperXl
              HKCUSoftwareMicrosoftOfficeExcelAddinsWOPRImageExtractor03.XlConnect
              HKCUSoftwareMicrosoftOfficeExcelAddinsWOPRTaskPaneCustomizr03.XlConnect

And I can see them in Tools-Add-Ins-Automation.

Meaning that its one of those DLL Server type situations:
              HKCR
              + CLSID
              + TypeLib
              + WOPRImageExtractor03.XlConnect

              The usual startup directories show:

              C:Program FilesMicrosoft OfficeOFFICE11STARTUP – empty

              C:Program FilesMicrosoft OfficeOFFICE11XLSTART -empty

              C:Documents and Settingsrd23Application DataMicrosoftAddIns
              Name Manager.xla
              XSFormatCleaner.xla

              C:Documents and Settingsrd23Application DataMicrosoftExcel
              Excel11.xlb

              C:Documents and Settingsrd23Application DataMicrosoftExcelXLSTART – empty

If these are COM add-ins, you should be able to remove them via the ‘COM add-ins…’ dialog, whcih is not normally visible. Right click one of your menu bars, choose customise, then on the Commands tab, select the Tools menu on the left hand side and then scroll about halfway down the right hand side and drag the ‘COM add-ins…’ button onto a toolbar, then close to the main Excel window. You should then be able to use this menu option to remove COM add-ins just as you can .xla add-ins.
              HTH.

The COM Add-Ins dialog box has no “Add-Ins available” listed.

Then you will need to uninstall the WOPR thing. Check if it is listed in Control panel, add/remove programs.

There is one entry for WOPR 2003 itself, but not the individual programs, i.e., Word, Excel.

Trying WOPR’s own “Add/Remove WOPR Components” does remove the three items from Excel’s Tools menu, though.
