AskWoody LoungerMarch 25, 2011 at 11:09 am #1273422Wubi is the best way for folks to give Ubuntu a try with little to no risk of botching up their Windows installation. If they know how to install and uninstall a Windows program, then they will be good to go with Wubi. Then, if they find themselves to be thrilled with Ubuntu, they can uninstall Wubi and create a separate partition to install Ubuntu, or install to a separate HD.

AskWoody LoungerMarch 25, 2011 at 12:04 pm #1273428My initial feeling is similar to Geralds. This is one method to try Linux without the all out commitment of it’s own partition. The one thing that caused me problems when I did experiment with Linux (Mint edition) was having to go to the Grub boot loader. Unfortunately my main PC is a laptop. A seperate HD is not nearly as practical as a desktop. I also did not have the time to adequately learn the Linux system, which quite frankly, does not hold the users hand nearly as nicely as Windows. This however may be just the ticket. I will have to figure out if I have any more time than previously to play with it.

AskWoody LoungerMarch 31, 2011 at 3:23 pm #1274204Hello ~ All,
I’ve found wubi to be problematic for me! It’s never worked on my win7-64bit system.
I found virtualbox the answer….I now have a fast, stable Ubuntu version, which upgrades perfectly and does all computing I need…It actually runs faster with firefox 4 than windows !!
If you can install programs, you can setup virtualbox, it’s that intuitive, it does most of the work for you.
Just a thought for those that are curious about alternative OS’s …Just think – NO dual booting – NO installing hard drives – Just fun!!

John in DallasPlease give a link for us to follow to the app you used. When I searched for Virtualbox, WOT gave the resulting site a bad score.
