Microsoft seems to be getting more and more aggressive. I use Windows 10 and subscribe to Office 365 Family, and until recently, I only had free access to Copilot for Edge. I was happy with that. It turns out that they have now extended the free use of Copilot to Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and I’m not sure if also for Outlook classic. This week while I was working on a spreadsheet, suddenly everything froze and a message came out saying that I had to change my Account Privacy settings. There was nothing I could do but go to the address it told me to. Although I tried to get out of the loop I was in, nothing worked, I couldn’t close the file or change screens, nothing. In the end, I had to go back to Account Privacy and accept “Enable experiences”. This freed me, although first it forced me to restart the PC without allowing me to manage any of the various files that were open at that moment, something that is always very, undesirable. In short, now I have Copilot in Excel, although, as one further requirement for it to work, I am told by the system that I need to have “auto save” activated, which I don’t feel at all like doing, and I haven’t done. Of course, I am aware that I can disable Copilot in Excel, but I am irritated to have to come into these kind of fights with my software supplier who is forcing Copilot down my throat. I wonder when they shall try the same tactics with my Windows 10, Outlook classic and making me save all files to One drive.
