According to the 10-Jan-2024 Neowin article Microsoft to force-install New Outlook on Windows 10, shares PowerShell/Registry workaround Microsoft will be automatically installing the “New” Outlook for Windows PWA (progressive web app) on Win 10 devices when the February 2025 Patch Tuesday updates start rolling out on 11-Feb-2025. That article states in part:
“New Outlook exists as an installed app on the device. For instance, it can be found in the Apps section of the Start Menu. It does not replace existing (classic) Outlook or change any configurations / user defaults. Both (classic) Outlook and New Outlook for Windows can run side by side.”
The Microsoft Learn article Control the installation and use of new Outlook claims that Win 10 users will not be able to block the initial installation the “new” Outlook app, but Peter Deegan’s 16-Dec-2024 column Stopping the migration to Outlook (new) in ISSUE 21.51 of the AskWoody newsletter suggests that might not be true. Regardless, if the “new” Outlook app is force-installed on your Win 10 machine in February 2025 you should be able to uninstall it using the PowerShell command and registry edit posted in the section titled “Block new Outlook preinstall on Windows” of that Microsoft article, which includes uninstall instructions for both Windows 10 and Windows 11.
When this “new” Outlook app re-appears on my Win 10 machine [see my 07-May-2023 topic “New” Outlook for Windows UWP App (Preview) Installed Without Permission in the MS Answers forum where I post as user Great White North] I’ll likely just ignore it is time rather than fiddle with my registry as long as it doesn’t interfere with my “classic” MS Outlook 2019.
