It appeared yesterday. KB 4461585 is supposed to provide all of the security goodies in KB 4461529, with none of the crashes. Thx, @TVWizard

Will this update be distributed via Windows Update?

      • #235151

The MS pages say “It is also available for manual download from the Download Center,” so I would assume it is to be distributed through Windows Update as well.

Edit to correct Catalog -> Download Center

I see available distribution only for installation from the Microsoft Download Center. In Microsoft catalog no search

You are correct, it is the Download Center, not the Catalog.

I m a little confused.  What is the difference if any between Outlook and Hotmail?

      • #235203

Best I can describe in layman’s terms is: Outlook is an email client application installed via MS Office suites on PC’s whereas, Hotmail, is an email service provided by MS which can be accessed by email clients or webmail.
MS discontinued the Hotmail service domain in 2013 which was replaced by outlook dot com domain (with the option to keep hotmail dot com email addresses using outlook dot com)

As of Friday 6:45 am CT, I am still being offered only KB4461529 on my Win Pro 7 x64 via WUpdater.

Is this to be pulled and replaced by KB4461585 or does it only appear AFTER KB4461529 is installed?

Hide kb4461529 within WU then follow the article issued by MS:

        https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4461585/november-21-2018-update-for-outlook-2010-kb4461585

the download locations for 32bit and 64bit are within the article.

Hm, would’ve been simpler for rule-based management if there was a dummy do-nothing 32-bit version to accompany the fix… oh well. Apparently there just isn’t a 32-bit version of KB4461585 at all, at least I don’t see a download location for such a thing…?

My bad, sorry, misread the part

As well as missing the title of the thread..

Ah, I should have read closer.  This appears to effect only the x64 version of Office/Outlook 2010,  not the x64 version of Windows 7.

I have the x32 version of Outllook 2010 installed on my x64 Windows 7 Pro, so can I assume no problems with KB4461529?

          • #235395

Yes, you are correct! No problems with KB4461529 and Outlook 2010 x32!

I updated a Win10 v1709 today with Outlook 2010 x64 installed. I was offered KB4461529. I hid it with wushowhide. I was not offered KB4461585 and I did not want to risk Outlook crashing, so I did not unhide and install  KB4461529. Hopefully they will offer the fix through Windows Update on Dec Patch Tues.

KB4461585 is finally distributed via WU. So it’s interesting to know if KB4461585 cumulative update and replace previous KB4461529?! In description no info about it. Only recommendation do not uninstall KB4461529.
Both updates are not checked in WU. What does it mean?
      I didn’t install KB4461529 because of DEFCON-2!

    • #236519

On test virtual PC I checked updates via WU for Outlook 2010 x64. Both updates were offered not checked. I chose both updates for install. Only KB4461585 installed. Another one (KB4461529)- not acceptable.

I had installed KB4461529 on my 64-bit Office previous to knowledge of the problem with Outlook. My Office suite includes Outlook, but I do not use it for my mail client.

This morning I was offered KB4461585 as a checked update in WU. I suspect it was checked because KB4461529 was installed and needed to be replaced. I installed KB4461585. Looking through the Installed Updates, KB4461529 no longer appears, so it seems that KB4461585 has superceded it.
