Yep, but why doesn’t * match?

Do they have an odd format for “match all selected”?

Because the utility is using proper regexes and capture groups. Simple wildcards are great for shell globbing and matching, but not for file rename utilities.

Similar to the “rename” command on linux, either the more powerful perl version or the util-linux-ng version.

Inviska Rename’s server cannot be reached. DNS Name cannot be resolved. At least under Ubuntu Linux.

I’ve been using Regex Renamer for years. It hasn’t been updated since 2011, but works fine on Windows 7 through 10. It does require you to be familiar with regular expressions, but is otherwise straightforward, striking a balance between the two utilities Woody recommends.
