According to this MSFT KB article:

it is necessary to uninstall one of the patches from this week’s patch Tuesday batch due to BSODs on a significant number of systems.

No problems here, but will uninstall anyway to be safe.

I hate it when this happens, but I bet MSFT hates it even more.

Probably system and installed software dependent. It installed on my Windows 7 PC without issue. Wasn’t offered on my Windows 8 laptop.

The patch affected the various flavors of Windows 7, Windows Server 2008, & Windows Server 2008 R2. I’ve installed it on several Windows 7 systems without incident and will most likely leave it be.

There are also reports of conflicts between KB 2823324 and Kaspersky Anti-Virus, as noted in a MoneySavingExpert.com forum.

UPDATE: 2013-04-11. There are reports that installing KB 2823324 results in a Stop 0x000000e error when some Windows 7 systems restart.
Microsoft recommends uninstalling the update. MS Support article 2839011 has more details.

– What to do: Hold back on … 2823324 (MS13-036) for now.

It doesn’t affect Windows 8 (or Server 2012) as far as I can see.

Hmmm, I wonder if this patch gave me the problems the other day when True Image wouldn’t recognize my internal backup drive..

That sounds very likely as it was a ntfs.sys patch.

KB2839011 Released to Address Security Bulletin Update Issue

We are aware that some of our customers may be experiencing difficulties after applying security update 2823324, which we provided in security bulletin MS13-036 on Tuesday, April 9. We’ve determined that the update, when paired with certain third-party software, can cause system errors. As a precaution, we stopped pushing 2823324 as an update when we began investigating the error reports, and have since removed it from the download center.

Contrary to some reports, the system errors do not result in any data loss nor affect all Windows customers. However, all customers who have installed security update 2823324 should follow the guidance that we have provided in KB2839011 to uninstall it.

Update 2823324 addresses a Moderate-level vulnerability that requires an attacker to have physical computer access to exploit. The other security update provided in security bulletin MS13-036, 2808735, continues to be available for download for all affected platforms and is being pushed via updates to help protect customers against other issues – the bulletin no longer contains the affected update.

I installed this update and have had zero problems either with the install or subsequently (installed 4/11/13). Indeed my system is actually working better since that series of updates than it did before! Looking at Microsofts article on uninstallation I note that it specifically does NOT reference using Windows Update to uninstall it and I am not inclined to go through the hoops in the article. Two questions: (1) Can I uninstall using Windows Update as my system allows me to boot up; and (2) should I?

Since the recommendation is to uninstall the patch, maybe do that and see if True Image works better now. I think you may be onto something here.

1) You can uninstall it via Control Panel > Programs and Features > View installed updates.
2) If your system is functioning fine, leave it be. If its not broke, don’t fix it.

I had to remove this update from a Windows 7 PC at work, where Kaspersky Endpoint Security is used, because it caused frequent crashes and automatic running of chkdsk.That PC has behaved normally since this patch was uninstalled.

If you aren’t in Brazil and don’t use Kaspersky AV, it may not cause any problems: While most of the reports at this time are from Brazil…, there are additional reports of conflicts with Kaspersky Antivirus

Bob, I did un-install the patch but I seem to resolved the problem before un-installing it but being it was the original cause I un-installed it anyway…

I don’t use Kaspersky Anti-Virus, but after I installed the patch, my Windows 7 PC would frequently insist on running CHKDSK whenever I booted it. I uninstalled the 2823324 patch and now no longer have the problem.

Microsoft has now issued a replacement (KB2840149) for the faulty patch (KB2823324) which will be delivered by Automatic Updates to systems which need it: KB2840149 (Windows 7 64-bit)

(If you don’t use automatic updates or Windows 7 64-bit, see MS13-036 for Vista and Windows 7 32-bit links. The original and replacement patches did not apply to XP or W8.)
