GuestNovember 19, 2014 at 9:17 am #52225I had problems with KB 3000850. Tried to install it on a PC running 8.1 Pro and it failed. I only found that out after I resolved a problem that the update caused. My machine was stuck at: “Keep your PC on until this is done. Installing update 1 of 1” on the restart. It sat there like that for quite a while until I forced it to quit.

GuestJanuary 26, 2015 at 11:24 am #52227Hi Woody, may I know where to download the latest-patched version of KB 2992611 ?
Today, Windows Update offers me the old version of SChannel update KB 2992611 (Important, published: 11/11/2014, box checked).
Microsoft’s KB article states that KB 2992611 has been “replaced by a newer update on December 9th, 2014”, but does not provide any link to the replacement update, except to check Windows Update.
Also, Windows Update does not offer me KB 3018238 (secondary package for KB 2992611).
Meanwhile, my Event Viewer has been logging multiple daily errors related to SChannel as follows:-
* Log Name: System
* Source: Schannel
* Event ID: 36888
* Level: Error
* User: SYSTEM
* Description: The following fatal alert was generated: 70. The internal error state is 105. -

Looks like you need to re-install the update, if you’re using Vista. Here’s what the KB article says:
On December 9th 2014, Microsoft re-released MS14-066 to comprehensively address CVE-2014-6321 to address issues with Security Update 2992611. Customers running Windows Vista or Windows Server 2008 who installed the 2992611 update prior to the December 9 reoffering should reapply the update.
