My wife went into her office today after leaving her computer on overnight (as she usually does), and when she woke up the monitor, she was confronted by the following screen:

    20230810_1448531
Needless to say, she was alarmed by this situation, as she typically keeps Outlook open with dozens of emails pending. Her first thought was that her computer had been attacked.

I tried to reassure her because the screen begins with “Microsoft Software License Terms”, but I have to admit that this is somewhat speculative on my part. What’s throwing me here is the unfamiliar script logo near the green check mark on the left (and what is THAT check mark all about??).

Wondering if this is a forced upgrade to Windows 10 22H2, or if her PC might be getting force-marched into Windows 11. My wife is not as tech-savvy as I am, and I can’t keep constant tabs on her computer’s doings, so I don’t know the background leading up to this and I can’t tell for sure what the heck is going on here.

She wants to either click on Decline, or hit Ctrl-Alt-Delete to see what happens. I have asked her to hold off on doing anything until I figure out (perhaps with your help) what this screen is about.

Any ideas or insights will be welcome.

What version of Office is being used, is it perhaps perpetual?
Guess May be a C2R sideswipe from perpetual office..

edit: looks remarkably like this fake take on a YouTube video

She couldn’t wait any longer and I had to make a decision, so I had her click on Decline.

It turned out to be Microsoft pushing Windows 11. After clicking on Decline, a new screen showed up that specified it was Windows 11, with a new pair of choices to either proceed or “Decline upgrade”. Wonder why they didn’t spell that out in the first place…

So my wife opted to Decline, and then her familiar Windows 10 desktop came back. Except that all the programs she had open the last time, were now closed. The computer must have rebooted overnight.

She’s been reluctant to let me install WuMgr on her PC, but I suspect her resistance will have weakened considerably now.

For the same reason MS played with our heads over force shifting to Win10 from Win7, once upon a nightmare as exposed in Ask Woody, many of us got lucky and were able to avoid the upgrade.

@Cybertooth – Well your posts have exposed that screen to us and now if we happen to get it we will know why it’s there and what it means and we will be able to proceed accordingly. So thanks for that.

I have a hard time believing a Windows 11 Microsoft Software License Terms agreement in August, 2023 would be dated June 2021.  In technology, especially with a major OS upgrade like Win 11, two years is a long time to go with zero changes to the fundamental agreement.

However, I know the outcome of your dilemma appeared to be favorable and I’m glad for that.  If something else pops up, please post it.

That’s the date on everyone’s Windows 11 license agreement at Settings, System, About, Microsoft Software License Terms.

I also got such notice via email.
I don’t have anything Microsoft apart from Windows OS.

Not quite the same. That’s for online services, not the Windows OS.

Completly unconscionable, heavy handed ploy by Microsoft to force users to upgrade to Windows 11. At some point, someone will develop new software that will unseat Microsoft. I just hope I’m hear to see that day.
