Microsoft starts automatically updating Windows 10 1809 users to Windows 10 2004
“If you were still using a version of the OS that was nearing the end of support, you’d be automatically upgraded to the newest version of Windows 10. That’s happening now for users of Windows 10 version 1809, the company confirmed on its Windows 10 version 2004 dashboard. Back in May, the company had updated the version 1809 dashboard to reflect that this would happen in June, and now the time is here.”

I am forewarned and will do my darnedest to not upgrade to 20-04.

Set the following and try to block the upgrade:

      Metered Connection On

      Feature Updates – 365 days

      Quality Updates – 30 days

Windows Update MiniTool – disable Updates

After applying the last November 2020 updates, my current plan is to upgrade to 1909.

This is all very well for many (most?) users.  I have an elderly neighbour who is quite happy with windows 10  1809 which works just fine with her Apps and hardware.  A forced update could result in some older Apps and hardware no-longer functioning.  She uses her system for very basic purposes and is not in a position to upgrade Apps and/or hardware simply because she is forced to by Microsoft.

I suspect there are other users in the same position.

Surely it is time for Microsoft to allow users to permanently block updates (with a clear indication that users do so entirely at their own risk?)

assuming that there are no compatibility issues with 2004, which there still are such as old nVidia video drivers and outdated Conexant audio drivers preventing the upgrade to 2004

let’s see if MS will try to automatically upgrade some 1809 users to 2004 on certain PCs with outdated nVidia graphics drivers before v358
