Hope this hasn’t already been posted: Windows 7 Team Blog.

But still no definitive answer to the question, “When’s the earliest date you can buy a Vista PC/laptop and qualify for a free upgrade to the appropriate version of Windows 7?” (only a partial answer hidden in the comments to this blog post).

Thanks, Joe – another site to keep an eye on. But, as usual, nothing relevant to the UK – or to anywhere outside the US!

It must be a Microsoft plot for revenge against the EU.

Windows 7 pricing gets unveiled (BBC – UK)

The news is all over everywhere, but in the UK we appear to be an exception to the European exception.

Let’s hope matters become clearer over the next few days, but at present I am pretty-well baffled about what will, or is supposed to, happen…

It looks like HP has a free upgrade to Windows 7 for many PCs bought from today, in every European country where I have checked.

I would be surprised if other vendors don’t have similar offers.

Dell must have hired an editor from the Grauniad – the offer is valid until Jaunuary 31, 2010…

That’s terrible – and they’ve repeated the same typo in at least 2 other places…

The Grauniad hasn’t been the same since they moved their offices from Manchester to London. I used to enjoy looking through each issue to find the daily woj of type.

Looks like a pretty good “marketing” strategy to me.

Dell must have hired an editor from the Grauniad…

That sent me (and probably most North American loungers) scurrying to Google.

            • #1166657

I was aware that most Loungers wouldn’t know the meaning of “Grauniad”, but as you see it’s easy enough to find out…

Toshiba will charge ”only” £27.90 inc VAT for upgrades to Windows 7 for eligible PCs/laptops – I suppose that’s as near to free that the UK gets! (Except for all the other manufacturers…)
