      As the debacle that is the Windows Update mechanism continues month after month in which MS consistently botches patches for it’s flagship version of Windows (8.x) I am left to wonder about the level of care that is applied to the patches for older versions like Win 7 and Vista. If they can’t properly maintain their bread and butter customers what hope is there fore the rest of us?

      I am running my laptop with Windows 7. Each month I wait until I get the word from you that it is safe before I do my updates.
      I have two security updates and I have similiar ones each month. Should I apply these now or wait and should I do them each month before I get the word from you.
      The two that I am questioning this month are KB2987107 Cumulative security update for Internet Explorer 11′ I usually run Firefocx or Chrome as my go to Browsers, but when I run Skype for example it opens and uses Internet Explorer. The second one that I am questioning is KB890830 Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool.

      @Sam

      The Malicious Software Removal Tool is always good to run – and it’ll run itself, even if you don’t give permission. That’s as it should be.

      The IE patch rollups frequently give problems. Wait until I give the all-clear, possibly later this month. (I say possibly because MS still has a bunch of outstanding problems with the October patches.)

      Hopeful,

      Thanks for the FAT32 article reference. It confirmed what I have long suspected. Microsoft’s customer care behavior has been incompetent, negligent, loathsome and any number of less wholesome adjectives might be applied. I speculate that their failure to timely update non-current Windows versions that have not reached end of life is part of their marketing strategy to force expensive upgrades on the customer base. I could rant on, but I will vote with my wallet when the time comes to upgrade my computing platforms. No individual non-corporate customer means diddly to Microsoft, but at least I’ll feel better about leaving this bully behind.
