I just finished converting from Win2K to XP and am still running into little problems. I am not sure whether the following error message is coming from XP or from Agent – which I use for news sites.

This problem does not occur with Win2K when accessing same image in Agent.

I have JPEGS associated with IRFAN-View in control panel.

When I attempt to view a JPEG image in Agent, I get the following error message “There is no application associated with MIME type images / JPEGS” There is a dialog box that opens to pick an application to process the JPEG image.

First of all – does anyone know if this is an XP message (or how to find out where it comes from) ?
Secondly – is there a way to show MIME type images in the file associations section of control panel?

    Thanks in advance

    Tom

In usual terms, you finished “upgrading”, not “converting” from Win2k to WinXP.

To fix your problem, reinstall IrfanView – or, better, download the latest version 3.98 from Twocows.com. And don’t forget to download plugins – this is separate download. Install (reinstall) both of them.

“Upgrading from previous version” is always worse than “clean installation” – that’s why usually I recommend latter.

What happens if you select another application (like Windows Picture & Fax Viewer) to open those JPGs in Agent when presented with that dialog box ??

Unless you are manipulating the majority of the JPG images you are opening, it might serve you better to change your associations and use the Picture and Fax Viewer to open your JPGs for viewing and use the right-click “Open with” command when you want to manipulate an image.

      Doc thanks

I dug out the winxp books and when I couldn’t find anything I attacked Agent. It was an Agent setting that was lost

Don’t think it was any of my doing. But thanks all the same. smile

Nice work troubleshooting, digging out that setting in Agent that was changed. It didn’t sound like an XP issue, but I know nothing about Agent. shrug
