Didn’t you post this in the MS WinXP newsgroup? There’s an answer there.

According to those replies, mscoree is part of the Microsoft .NET SDK.

Have you installed this software at any time?
If so then try Uninstalling it, then boot to safe mode and install it again.

What is sdk? What software are you talking about? I’m sorry I’m a little slow here.

My reading of the notes about this file suggest that if you have not installed the software development kit for Microsoft .NET then you should not have the mscoree.dll file.

Do you have any problems on your computer, apart from this message from Norton Win Doctor? If not then I suggest you just ignore this message.

SDK stands for Software Development Kit. Seemly you installed critical update “Microsoft.NET Framework Service Pack 2”, or “…Serivice Pack 1”, or “Service Pack 1 for Windows XP” (which includes these patches). Critical Update, mentioned above, put an entry into your Registry pointed to mscoree.dll, that bothers you. Because you didn’t install Microsoft.NET Framework (it is “recommended” update, but Microsoft states that “You need to install the .NET Framework only if you have software that requires it.”), you don’t have mscoree.dll in your installation.
If you want, you can install .NET Framework (see How to Get the Microsoft .NET Framework for instructions). This is 20.8 MB download, and if you don’t need it, I suggest to forget about it alltogether.
