Short Version: Right clicking on Win 10 start button brings up menu as expected, but of the 18 choices, only “run” and “search” work. How do I get missing functionality? Command Prompt therefore, is NOT available.
Detailed Version: Upgraded Win 7 to Win 10 several weeks ago. Love it for the most part, especially after we fixed a shutdown problem by turning off Fast start, but some critical functionality appears to not be working. Such as Disk Management & Command Prompt.
However, of the 18 or so choices, only Run and SEARCH worked. I went on line to the Win 10 Community website and was connected to a service tech who said he could help me. He said he needed remote access which I granted. He then started deleting programs! I asked what he was doing and he said he was removing maleware that was causing conflicts. Since he hadn’t run anything to reach that conclusion (that I could see) I questioned how he figured that Ad Aware, Advanced System Care, Microsoft Fix It Center, and CCleaner were maleware!
He said that these programs were causing conflicts with the Microsoft commands, but not to worry, when he was done, Win 10 would work correctly, and he would activate the correct programs.
After about two hours, and 3 reboots, he had deleted 21 programs that I noticed, and did another reboot after which, he didn’t come back on!!!! I waited several minutes and then went back to the Web page and requested another chat. I we now 19th in line and when I finally connected, it didn’t work. I tried communicating with the young lady, but there was no reply. At all!
It was now after 11:00 pm and two hours online, and I had no idea what had been done. By the way, the right click on the start button Still didn’t work! Talk about frustration.
I did a full backup of the pc as it was after the “fix” and then did a complete recovery of the backup I had fortunately done the night before.
Functionality still is missing. I haven’t figured out how to get to disk management or command prompt any other way. It doesn’t come up with additional information under help or anything else. Several suggestions were undoable since they required command prompt to initiate.
Obviously something is not right, but I have no idea what it is. I created a Win 10 ISO from the upgrade process, so considering trying to run it again, but don’t know the ramifications. Could be worse than I already am.
