We’re running 64-bit and trying to install Office Pro 2010 64-bit. (Yes, we have read all the articles on the differences, but we have decided on 64-bit.) However, there is no setup.exe file in the x64 folder.

    The following link states:
    http://news.office-watch.com/t/n.aspx?z=12&a=1404
“On the Office 2010 DVD you have to explore the disk and go to the x64 folder – click on the setup.exe program in that folder. Do NOT choose the setup.exe file in the root folder – that will install 32-bit software even on 64-bit Windows.”

    Here is another reference:

We initially tried to run from Dell’s pre-installation folder.

    The preinstallation files reside here:
    C:ProgramDataMicrosoftOEMOffice14Office14

I also downloaded 64-bit from Microsoft’s web, and it had the same same folder structure, which was also missing the setup.exe in Office64.en-us.

This 64-bit setup installation file should be located here:
    C:ProgramDataMicrosoftOEMOffice14Office14office64.en-ussetup.exe

If you try to install using one of the msi files, you get this error:

It is entirely possible unless you purchased a retail version of Office 2010, you copy which came pre-installed on your PC only includes the 32 Bit edition as it appears to be an OEM version. The retail versions do include the ability to install either 32 Bit or 64 Bit editions although the 64 Bit edition is hidden on the DVD. Your OEM installation did not come with a DVD, so you may have to use the edition you have installed.

Here is where I had downloaded a copy from MS.
      Office Backup Disc

I had a friend of mine send me a screen shot of his Office DVD, which shows a x64 and x86 as the main two folders on the DVD. Neither the MS download or my OEM install has that folder structure. Very strange that the download from MS doesn’t come with both.

I bit the bullet and ordered the actually DVD for $13.99 from the same MS site above and hoping it will contain both 32 and 64 bit versions.

Disappointing that neither MS or Dell give a choice of which version to get.
