When I make a small change to a css file in a Web, FrontPage cashes as soon and I try and save the change. I get an error message, “C++ runtime error, abnormal program termination”. Then, “the instruction at “0x67fab0″ reference memory at (a memory address) could not be read” FrontPage then closes. I am running Windows XP Pro.

Are you making the change to the css file using FrontPage?

      Cheers

Jim – while those of us in the Lounge ponder your situation, I suggest you surf to the MS site and simultaneously look for a description of your problem in the MSDN Knowledge Base.

but changes to normal htm files cause no harm?

      Any other programs acting strangely?

      • #664688

Correct I can modify htm files, publish, and do everything else normally. All other Office and other programs are working normally. Today after rebooting the computer, when I tried to modify this CSS file and save it, immediately after clicking on the save icon instead of the runtime error message I got the message that FP had encountered a problem and would shut down. I then got the option to send an error report to Microsoft, which I did. This was the first time that the MS error reporting option has appeared. There was no feed back from MS suggesting what the problem might be as sometimes happens with these error reports.

Have you tried reinstalling? It sounds like a missing or corrupted file.

          • #664757

Just tried to reinstall and found that my CD may be damaged. Drive runs, music starts, is interrupted, and the installation window does not appear. Tried it on 2 computed, and cleaned the CD. Still no joy.

I have given up on my FP CD. I have tried cleaning it and both my CD drives cannot read the disk. The drives see the disk but I get nothing when I try to open it. I am prepared now to buy the FP XP (2002) upgrade. I should be able to install the upgrade edition on my HD, but if I ever have to install in on a new HD I will not have a good FP 2000 CD to verify I am qualified for the upgrade edition. Will Microsoft replace damaged CD’s?

MS has always been extremely helpful when I’ve had disk/CD/password problems, and I have no reason to believe that policy has changed.

I have the same problem. I am also running Windows XP (Home Edition). This happens when creating a new CSS also. Cannot figure out what’s happening but I suspect an incompatibility with XP/FP 2000.

I upgraded to FP 2002 and the problem seems to have been resolved.
