Y’know, for years the monthly patching nonsense has been a nerve shredding, palm sweating experience, every month you’re [hoping] that the latest patch isn’t going to ruin your machine. It’s why i was glad to find such an invaluable site like this, not just the help and advice but knowing you’re not the only person dealing with whatever problem a patch has caused. Certainly it stresses me out far more than whatever the latest virus, malware or phishing attack is doing the rounds because with that i know i have control and take stringent precautions. So, surely i can’t be the only one who is somewhat looking forward to the end of this nonsense come january (and a few years later for win 8.1) when this monthly game of mental torture comes to an end. Seeing the farce that is this month’s patches it’ll be a blessed relief not to have to deal with microsoft’s c*** any longer.

I still feel like I’m flipping a coin every month. On my Win7 machine, I’m also actually looking forward to the end of updates come January. After following this site, I’ve formed the opinion that MS and its updates are a much greater danger to tanking my OS than any menace they are to protect us from. Had I not been following AskWoody, MS would at some time have given me the BSOD gift from initial bad updates. For my needs, that Chromebook is looking even better next year.

You can move to group W any day. Security holes… won’t stop after January.

I blocked all updates on my (now dead) win 7 back in 2016.

Well indeed, maybe I’m a masochist but I do still believe in patching security holes, particularly the show stopping ones that show up every so often. But you can’t pick and choose any longer, it’s either all of them or nothing. Then there are the fixes for bugs in security updates included in non-security patches, sneaking in telemetry in what should be security only updates and to top it all off Microsoft just do not test this stuff properly!

I understand the sighs of relief from those planning to move to Chromebooks & Linux distros, but not for me… at least for Chromebook. Google’s already getting enough info from me on my LG Android phone, & tracking me via Maps; I don’t need to give them the rest of it via a Chromebook. If Win10 1909 AKA 19H2 AKA “1903 Service Pack” shakes out the way I hope, I can upgrade to it, set Win10 1909 Home to defer updates for 21 days, & monitor the chaos via AskWoody. Not “Set It and Forget It”… but even Ronco Showtime Rotisseries warned you against that. If Win10 1909 turns out to be as buggy as the other versions… well, I still have 3 years left on Win8.1 to get ready for converting to Linux!

Bought a refurbished Windows 10 64-bit, currently updated to 22H2. Have broke the AC adapter cord going to the 8.1 machine, but before that, coaxed it into charging. Need to buy new adapter if wish to continue using it.

Looks like MSFT just released the “C” week updates for Windows 10 v1803 and Server 2016 (1803).  Contains the “fixes” for the VB6 / VBA / VBScript issues…  Currently available on the Update Catalog.

looks like 1903 users will be getting their VBA/VB6/VBScript bug fixes either by the end of this week or at the beginning of next week. the KB4512941 update for v1903 has just shown up in the RP ring with build 18362.325 and thru a recent uup dump
