I do a few statistical papers. I tried to send my stuff to my graphic artist who uses a mac. Some characters like the greek lamda, the equals sign and square root fucntion do not get converted properly, when read by mac word Even from Word to pdf, the lamda changes to a question mark. I am hoping to resolve this by selecting a postscript compatible font. My printers are the latest HP 6 laser .

AskWoody LoungerNovember 10, 2005 at 2:41 am #984202The latest version of MacWord, 2004, uses Unicode and should have much less issues than previous versions.
The graphic artist will probably use some DTP program, though. The Symbol font is usually a good choice for the symbols you mentioned, if some of the programs involved don’t support Unicode.
In case you did use the “Symbol” font, and the characters still didn’t get through, it likely is an issue on the Mac side. For one, MacWord 2004 will use Unicode for the Symbol font (… WinWord doesn’t), so if the text gets inserted into a DTP program later on, that might be problematic.
(added later: Since you say the characters are already messed up when opened in MacWord, this likely isn’t the issue.)
I also seem to remember that there were some issues in Mac Word with different versions of the Symbol font being around.Maybe you or your graphic artist can find something on the Google archives of the MacWord newsgroups.
