I recently had to replace my mouse. When I did, I got a separate USB stick for it. When I installed it, only the mouse worked, but the keyboard didnโ€™t. I put the original USB stick in another USB port and a lot of software was downloaded. Now both work, but the button on top of my keyboard which is supposed to bring up Windows Live Mail now brings up MS Outlook. How do I get WLM back?

There software for the keyboard that will have to be installed, it will have software to re-program the button to open the desired mail package.

Where do I find this keyboard software?

You can usually find it at the keyboard vendors site. Which keyboard is it?

      To Joe:

      It’s a Dell (M/N: Y-RBP-DEL4). I guess it an “enhanced keyboard”.

You’ll have to look at the Dell support site support.dell.com. Go to the download section and search for updates using your express service code or service tag.

But… then again there ought to be a way to fix this without the added expense.

I went to the download section and the drivers I need are referred to as “Input Device Drivers”. Unfortunately, when I get to the download drivers section, there are no drivers listed for input devices. Maybe that’s because I have a working keyboard. I’m tempted to order a Dell mouse like the one that quit and after I get it, go back to a point before I installed the latest one, and instal the Dell mouse. That would avoid the problem I’m having.

Have you looked around on your PC for any Dell utilities to configure the keyboard?

IIRC, Dell had some software that auto-started for configuring the keyboard. Check the system notification area to see if something is already running.

      Hi, Joe
      What does llRC mean?

Here’s what I did. I found “Dell ll0116a (keyboard software).zip” in My Briefcase on the desktop. I installed it. Then I uninstalled Microsoft Outlook and re-booted the computer. When I hit the “mail” button at the top of the keyboard, it brought up WLM. That was good, but when I re-installed Outlook, the same problem occurred. I checked the notification area and had a lot of stuff listed there, including WLM.

IIRC = if I remember correctly

When you install Outlook it is registered as the default application for email. It appears that the keyboard software is starting the default mail application. You need to have WLM registered as the default mail application. What operating system are you using?

      W7 Home Premium 64 bit

      Hi Joe –
You kind of left me hanging. I was expecting you to tell me how to make WLM the default mail program. I have looked carefully at Outlook to see if there is a way to “undelete” its default situation, and I have looked carefully at WLM to see if I could find a way to make it the default. No success with either effort.

Do you have an answer or does anyone else out there have one?

    • #1456451

Sorry. See if How to make WLM default app? helps.

or in your browser – goto
tools, internet options, programs tab, internet programs, set programs, set default programs.
and tell it what default email program you want.

Thanks for hanging in, Joe. Your reference did the job. The mail key on my keyboard now brings up WLM

Glad you got it resolved. Thanks for posting back.
