About nine hours ago, I noted that they cooling fan was running at medium speed constantly. I opened the Resource Monitor and found that MRT.exe [MS Windows malicious software removal tool] was using about 13% of all CPU cycles and that there hard drive was active. I assumed that the software was doing a routine check and let it go. After about four hours, I shut the computer down completely for a short time and restarted it. MRT.exe kicked right back in and has been running at 13% of CPU cycles since. I did try to suspend the process using the Resource Monitor and it wouldn’t let me.

Is this normal? If it is analyzing the disc for malware, how long should that take? Could there be something else wrong that needs attention?
