On my Win11 system I have MS365 installed. Interface for Win11 and MS365 is English. I have one language pack installed to allow Dutch proofing.

    If I look at my installed apps in Windows, I see eight versions listed: de-de, en-gb, en-us, es-es, fr-fr, it-it, nl-nl, pl-pl

Why is this happening? Things do work fine so it’s not a real problem but it’s weird, I never use German (de), Spanish (es), French (fr), Italian (it) or Polish (pl)…

I vaguely recall having uninstalled some language entries in the past, that seemed to work but these entries simply came back

That’s pretty much standard practice for a LOT of Windows S/W.

If you search drive C: for zh-CN (the Chinese language code) you’ll be surprised at how many different folders it finds!

And if you view any of them, you’ll see they contain a large numbers of foreign language files.

I.e. the %UserName%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\input folder contains 126 different keyboard language code files.

So, even though you normally have to select your particular language during the install process, it seems most installers still “installall the language files it’s capable of supporting instead of just the one you selected.

I have another system that does not show all these languages in the ‘installed apps’ list. Sometimes, it stays like that, sometimes suddenly other languages get installed without me doing anything.
I know there might be languages installed on disk (or at least, precursors required to install other languages) but what I mean it that they actually show up in ‘installed apps’.
As said, I recall uninstalling some languages (which takes a while and works, without any visible impact on how MS365 functions) but then at a random time in the future, they might return…
