They’re all bad patches, and I expect Microsoft will yank them from the Catalog at any moment. Post coming in Computerworld.

Patch reliability is unclear. Unless you have an immediate, pressing need to install a specific patch, don't do it. |

GuestNovember 3, 2017 at 8:46 am #143606If MS devoted an adequate level of skilled resource to properly developing, testing and distributing patches instead of focusing on the Windows10 hamster wheel of short-lived, questionable features and enhancements the situation wouldn’t be as dire.
It’s not the software, its the people making the decisions.

AskWoody LoungerNovember 3, 2017 at 10:17 am #143623Trouble is you cannot possibly have such a large OS user base and upgrade every six months with a major revision and not endure issues with at least a significant percent of that use group. No it may not be as significant as crashes, or missing files. But the ideal you can push the upgrades without issues is dreaming on Microsoft’s part. I just don’t think its any better than what we had previous with Windows. Is this Windows as a service better? Not in my opinion, and sometimes I think its much worse.

AskWoody LoungerNovember 3, 2017 at 10:22 am #143624I don’t know if Linux is the solution for every Windows user. But I certainly think for a lot of consumers who primarily use the web and a handful of apps could use something other then Windows these days. Its a rather complex OS that is not needed for many. Options like a consumer Linux or Chromebook, or even moving to a Android or IOS platform could be a better fit. I look at Windows 10 these days an don’t need half the stuff Microsoft forces on me. Plus some of it I cannot even uninstall, I am just stuck with it on my PC’s.

GuestNovember 3, 2017 at 10:55 am #143614Seems, M$’s message to Windows users is; … “If you do not want to be regularly affected by buggy or malware-like updates in Win 7/8.1 and older Versions of Win 10, you should quickly move to the latest Win 10 Version 1703 and 1709, Pronto.!”
IOW, this may have been intentional on M$’s part. Remember their aggressive GWX campaign ?

AskWoody LoungerNovember 3, 2017 at 2:20 pm #143667Every month I think, more and more, that Windows should simply be put out to pasture.
Woody on Linux doesn’t have the same ring.

AskWoody_MVPNovember 5, 2017 at 4:34 am #143924Typically they would be documented at https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/894199/software-update-services-and-windows-server-update-services-changes-in. I post to topic https://www.askwoody.com/forums/topic/windows-update-content-changes-for-2017/ when there is new info posted there. However, I have observed multiple instances in recent months in which that list is not updated.
Another method is to monitor new or updated Microsoft Knowledge Base articles.
