OK so I turned off my Office 2016 Desktop Retail CTR updater and have not had the time to follow all the ins and outs of what has come down the road.  I have Local Account, not MS.

Lots of confusing postings here on all the different versions of Outlook. Mine is the desktop version that came with the retail package.  My last update did not involve anything to do with the “Try the New Outlook” button/option, or anything unusual (that I am aware of), it just works.

Can someone give me a digest of what I will/would be facing if I turned my MS Updater on and installed the latest (or there-abouts) Office Update?

Are there Outlook minefields waiting? Using POP3 protocol.  I can’t afford to lose email access.

We end up burned just allowing Microsoft to do what it wants when it wants to for Office, etc.

We are running Office 2016 CTR Retail with POP3 up to date today in a certain way:

      • Outlook New prompts are disabled & Outlook New is uninstalled.
      • We switched to the Semi-Annual Enterprise Channel for Office updates. Anyone can do so. This avoids a lot of temporary problems.
      • Updates are normally disabled.
      • Usually monthly, we temporarily enable updates when nothing significant reported in AskWoody.
      • We can go back to the previous Office install via CTR commands, if ever need be, since we record each version installed.

More detail please on how to do the 2 above items.

More detail please on how to go back via CTR(?) commands.
