The bad news IMHO, MSFT has an intrusive pop-up followed by a message in the notification area which has to be dismissed. The good news is that it does not appear to be installed and even better, if you have a local account it can’t be used. But still, I don’t like the nag at all.

“To get started, press + C, or use the Copilot in Windows icon located on the right end of the taskbar. If you want to show or hide the icon from your taskbar, right-click on the taskbar then select Show Copilot (preview) button to clear the checkmark from the option.

Note: If you’re signed in with a local account, Copilot in Windows isn’t available.”

if you have a local account it can’t be used.

Yes, it can at least in Edge.
Updated my brother’s Windows 10 22H2 to the new Edge..66.
The copilot icon at the tool bar works and accept questions.

      I don’t see any pop-ups on my Windows 10 Pro 22H2.

So, that is a QUOTE from the page I cited. “Note: If you’re signed in with a local account, Copilot in Windows isn’t available.”

Plus, if you read the page, it says: “Copilot in Windows 10 will have a phased launch“.

Also, the picture I attached is from one of MY computers. Just because you did not get it does not mean you won’t.

          I’ve seen it on a Windows 11 and on a Windows 10.

I have 2 Win 10 pro 22H2 computers each of which has only 1 local account (no MS account). Both have received nagging pop-ups.

Interestingly, my Win 10 pro 22H2 computer with only 1 MS account (no local accounts) has yet to display a nagging pop-up.

None of the computers has Covid, uh I mean Copilot, installed on it.

I’m running Win 10 pro 22H2 and local account. I got the pop-up today.

If I were more paranoid I’d say that they were going after the local accounts 🙂

That’s exactly what they’re doing. About once a month my 2 W10 pro computers that have only a local account splash a big blue screen at me with something to the effect of “LET’S FINISH GETTING YOU SET UP!” At which point I need to click through a handful of screens saying NO before I finally get to the login screen.

MS is great at the art of wearing out their welcome.

What I do whenever I see that screen is to log off and log back on. I do not go through any process and when I log back on, the nag is gone.

On the one hand, I absolutely hate all of these nags, but on the other hand, I have to admit, I have not paid for a Windows product since getting computers with Win7 installed. So, free always comes with some sort of advertising.

That said, one product that really irritates me is Acronis. I have many perpetual versions I’ve purchased throughout the years, and they nag me DAILY!!! I know the license probably says I don’t “own” the software, but for Pete’s Sake, give me a break!

You might try this to stop that aggravation:

Go to Settings > System > Notifications > Additional settings and uncheck Offer suggestions on how I can set up my device option. I actually uncheck all 3

No UWP Apps (except the MS Store), no New Outlook, No Edge, no CoPilot Pop-Ups, no “LET’S FINISH GETTING YOU SET UP!”, no new buttons or icons, NO Problems.  🙂  🙂 🙂

I WILL try that. It was actually set to being ON. Does this also work on third party notifications? If so, that would be Grrreat!

ETA:Unfortunately that did not work. Logging off and on brings back the same annoyance.

The only way to get rid of the icon is to hide it, but I like all of the systray icons showing because the caret bothers me. Anal retentive I guess.

You can set notifications per app on that page. I don’t get any notifications except for one app I use and chose to allow.

So, that program is not listed “From These Senders” unfortunately. Oh well, thanks for trying!

          • #2644594

Check privacy and security notification settings. If you don’t want any notifications you can turn of notifications in settings. That’s what I used to do but one program I wanted caused me to turn them back on.

            • #2644595

Just noticed that notice from acronis isn’t the windows notification. Check startup, task scheduler and acronis settings and see if able to disable in one of those.

Yeah, I’ve been through those as well. Nothing worked. They are getting in to the app, even if you are not logged in. They follow the license. There are a bunch of people who have tried to disable it from the Acronis forums. The only way to get it done, from my understanding, is to contact Acronis support and have it turned off for your own account. I did that, but it was ignored.

The one way to really eliminate it is to uninstall the program and do the backups off of a USB stick, but, unfortunately this will not save your settings, so that could be quite irritating setting up a new backup each time from scratch.

At some level I enjoy clicking through the nags saying NO to each screen. But after I’ve rejected several times the nag to set up an MS account, MS should just let it go. A good opportunity for their AI to learn something.

No apology necessary, I really appreciate the suggestions. If an easy setting like that had worked, I would have been THRILLED after years of putting up with their annoying nags!!!
