    Hi All
I want to do a custom install of windows 8.1 update for multi booting.
I have 2 160GB internal hard drives, each with a reserved partition and 2 additional partitions of approximately 74.5 GB.
Drive 1 (H drive) is a Simple Basic NTFS Healthly and contains windows 7(Boot, Page File, Crash Dump, logical drive) on the 1st partition, the 2nd partition is empty.

Drive 2 (C drive) is a Simple Basic NTFS Healthy and contains Windows XP(System, Active, Primary Partition) on the 1st partition, the 2nd partition is empty.

Originally I had a dual boot scenario with Windows XP and Vista – then I installed windows 7 which destroyed the dual boot capability because I forgot to install Win 7 as a custom installation but windows 7 worked, Win XP stopped working.

I have tried installing Windows 8 on Drive 2 (C drive) but I keep getting the message “We couldn’t find a valid partition, Partition table does not have a valid System Partition”. I have also tried installing windows 8 on the 2nd partition on the C drive which is empty. I have tried using the 2nd partition as primary, logical, and trying to let windows 8 create an acceptable as part of the install process. I have looked at other forums and found no solution yet and nothing I have tried works.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi, I am replying to my own thread – it seems as though windows wants unallocated drive space to install on. What I did was remove a partition and this made that partitions space unallocated. Next I put the window 8 dvd in the drive, rebooted from the dvd, answered the window 8 questions, selected custom install, selected the partition with the unallocated space and it installed without a hitch.
