When I open a non-Microsoft program, and try to open or save a document, I can’t see my “MY DOCUMENTS” folder. Is there a way to fix this or work around it?

Some programs are WRITTEN, Photosuite being one, to use THEIR selected home folder. I have NOT run into ANY program that I can NOT get to MY Documents folder.THIS is a problem with the different programs NOT MS Windows.

desktop.ini is related to ‘Active Desktop, are you using it?
I do NOT waste my resources in using this type of ‘Cheewizz’.
I just remembered that it is used also with the display of ‘Thumbnails’ if this has been set on.
This file may have be corrupted.

AskWoody LoungerJanuary 11, 2001 at 2:56 am #1775423I’ve read this thread and thought I’d found the answer to my ‘My Documents’ folder problem, but, Alas, no. The only desktop.ini on my computer is in the WindowsFonts folder.
Here’s my issue: Not only doesn’t ‘My Documents’ show up in Office and non-Office program Open and Save dialogs, even when I navigate to the C: drive, it STILL doesn’t show up. I can then enter ‘My Documents’ in the filename box and it then opens it, but otherwise it remains hidden. Any ideas?

GuestJanuary 11, 2001 at 8:06 am #1775476One thought is that, desktop.ini is a hidden file. When you look in your My Documents folder, are you seeing hidden files? In Windows Explorer, you have to go to View/FolderOptions/View…, then you have to check a circle to see hidden files. I use Norton Navigator, so I can automatically see all files, or PowerDesk will let you see hidden files also, but in Windows Explorer, you have to change the settings. Does this help?

AskWoody LoungerJanuary 13, 2001 at 7:00 am #1775862Thanks for the try, but no, I always set Explorer to show ALL files. It probably has something to do with the fact that ‘My Documents’ is a ‘special’ file that MS shows in places where it really isn’t. But I don’t know what to do to restore normal display. I don’t think this has always been like this.
