Hi fellow loungers, from a newbie,

Here’s my problem: I’ve built a fairly large HTML-based (has some JavaScript in certain places, but not enough to affect function) product on CD-ROM using FP2000 (linked framed pages; not a FrontPage Web) in Windows (formerly Win98, now WinXPpro), which runs fine in the various flavours of Windows but appears not to work AT ALL on Macintosh platforms (tested so far in MacOS 9 and 10). I was expecting things like the Autorun not to work, but not the HTML pages which (as far as I can see) are HTML 4 compliant and thus (to my uneducated mind) ought to work on pretty much anything that’s Web capable. Am I mistook? Do FrontPage pages (in general) work on Macs or is there some fundamental problem, i.e., can I blame Microsoft or is it my lousy coding? 🙂

Thanks in advance for any assistance…

What things don’t work? I assume that the page appears and regular (non-JavaScript) links would work. No?? Do you have browser-detection script that “dead-ends” for unknown browsers?

Apparently (I’m going on second-hand knowledge here as I have no direct access to a Mac) the file finder in MacOS 10.3 will show the HTML files and names, however when clicking to open any of those files (e.g., INDEX.HTML) the file reference disappears and nothing loads. Neither Safari, IE 5 (via MacOS 9.2) or Netscape browsers will open or display any of those files (I think this is on an iMac). I don’t have any dead-ending scripts for non-JavaScript browsers, however the JavaScript is pretty insignificant– just a few lines, not enough to affect the display of whole pages.

I’d say that the problem is more likely to lie in the CD format rather than the html code.

          ..and then…
