Last evening when I shut down my computer, I saw the familiar Windows is Updating screen.  This morning when I started up, I saw the other end of that screen.   I am running Windows 10 20H2 on a two month old computer.  I have feature updates controlled by the target parameter in Group Policy, and I have quality updates delayed for 30 days in group policy.  I had been given no indication that updates were available.  Further, afterward when I looked at Update History, there is nothing shown for that day.  There is also nothing listed in Restore Updates.  So apparently some kind of an update was made that was pushed to me no matter my settings and was not recorded so it can be monitored and deleted.  Does anyone have any idea what went on?

Look in Installed Updates (Windows Update\View update history “Uninstall updates” link at the top or Control Panel\Programs & Features “View installed updates”)

Type winver in the taskbar search and see if your version has changed.

There’s a few ways to see if you can spot something

Start, search, Powershell, run as admin type in Get-Windowsupdatelog

      https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/powershell/module/windowsupdate/get-windowsupdatelog?view=windowsserver2019-ps

      OR

Dig into the event log  – sometimes there’s KB number hints in there.

BTW it’s in the system event log, look for source “Windowsupdateclient”

Do you use MS Defender, or other AV tool?
It could have been virus definition, that was updated.
