I finally installed Win 7 on my laptop. The manufacturer, HP does not offer any Windows 7 drivers, but by using the Vista drivers I was able to solve all the driver issues but one big one – no audio. I installed Win7 using a new bigger hard drive. I have reinstalled the old XP hard drive and looked at the drivers for manufacturer info and installed a couple of tools that would save my drivers hoping I could somehow use that information to find the correct driver from the audio manufacturer or some other driver library. So far I have had no success. In XP I show a Conextant High Definition Audio Driver (Conexant High Definition Audio, 3.21.0.0, 2006-04-19, Conexant, Signed). Searching on the internet has found some hits, but when I try to install them they say, no compatible hardware installed. HP does not show a Vista audio driver for download for my model of laptop so that has been no help either. I’m looking for some other avenues to try to find a driver that will work. Anyone got any ideas. I’ve already been in driver guide, driver max, etc, etc. I suppose I can live without audio, but I sure don’t want to. This is a good laptop yet with 2gb RAM and P4 2.8 centrino processor.

AskWoody MVPJuly 9, 2011 at 9:08 pm #1287343Conexant 4.8 driver says it is compatible with Vista. That may work. These appear to be 32-bit drivers. You did not specify whether you installed 32-bit or 64-bit Windows 7.
You might also check http://catalog.update.microsoft.com/v7/site/Search.aspx?q=”windows 7 conexant” at the Microsoft Update Catalog to see if there is something applicable.

Try this one. I have used this approach to force hardware in the past:

Good luck.

AskWoody LoungerJuly 11, 2011 at 10:49 am #1287518Here’s Conexant’s stand on the matter: “Conexant develops audio solutions that are used in a wide range of products including personal computers. We provide customized audio drivers to our customers, which include major computer manufacturers globally. At the request of these manufacturers, Conexant does not provide end-user support or drivers for PC audio products. If you have an issue with the audio configuration in Windows 7, please contact the manufacturer of your computer.”

AskWoody LoungerJuly 14, 2011 at 5:36 pm #1288248This program worked for me & best of all-it’s free. http://download.cnet.com/SlimDrivers-Free/3000-18513_4-75279940.html
I have no ties to Slim Driver nor am I promoting it-merely stating the fact that I used the program successfully. YMMV
Good luck.
