I’ve completed my PP presentation and would like to print out a copy with Notes (with lines next to the slide), But, I’ve been trying
to get 2 slides per page. Is this possible? How do I get the lines on the slide?

AskWoody LoungerJanuary 5, 2010 at 4:24 am #1195596It can be done ONLY in the Handout and 3 slides per page
Well unless you are a little devious that is …..
Two up handouts with lines for notes
You’ll need to scroll down when you open the page.

I do use the Notes area and would NOT want to lose them.

AskWoody_MVPJanuary 5, 2010 at 4:21 pm #1195716The notes won’t actually be lost. They won’t print in PowerPoint though unless you re-assemble the notes master (which takes about 30 seconds) OR you can just send to Word.
That’s all one needs to do is forget how to get one’s notes back.
That is a work around, but in my opinion is not a very good one.DaveA I am so far behind, I think I am First

AskWoody LoungerJanuary 7, 2010 at 10:13 am #1196047No question about it, PowerPoint’s support in this area is vastly deficient. This is why there is practically an epidemic of people simply printing out their slides when they need to make handouts: there are no good tools to facilitate the creation of much that is better. The Handout master is a joke. I recommend one of two courses of action:
1. Use the Notes page for handouts. The Notes master is like the slide master — much more pliable and customizable. However, this does not address the original query about getting two sides per page.
2. Bring Adobe Acrobat into the mix. Its print engine allows for 2×1 and 1×2 printing, enabling you to create more flexible layouts.
Both are bandaids, but worth exploring…

From a philosophical point of view, designing and writing a handout is a different kettle of fish than a presentation. That’s why I’d probably do it in Word myself.
That doesn’t mean I’d turn down better tools in PPT!

AskWoody LoungerFebruary 28, 2010 at 9:26 pm #1211481One of the things that you can do is to SEND your presentation to Word. It will create a new document in Word with your presentation contained in a table. It may take some effort, but you can change the whole layout there, so you get 2 slides per page, with notes next to them.
I usually go the other way and try to cram as much on a page as I can, just so I don’t have to print out so many pages. I can do this while still keeping the notes legible, because you can select the column with the notes and make them any font and size that you want. A couple of things to watch for, select your table and go to Table, Properties, and then on the Row page, turn off the check box for Allow Rows to Break Across Pages (I don’t know why that is the default) and your file will be quite large, because your slides are all images, so check it out and you may want to do a compression on the images, to save some space.
