Next hard drive question for ya:
I need to play with RAID and demonstrate several configurations. Win 7 Pro can do RAID on its own….but A) I don’t know what PC will be used and can’t predict if the trainer’s mobos have enough SATA ports, and B) Windows options are limited to 0 or 1.
As for the software vs hardware RAID discussion, I’m playing and exploring with RAID, not necessarily concerned with building a high performance system. I’m leaning hard towards a separate RAID controller card. Plenty of them listed at newegg, some list all sorts of RAID options. Any recommendations on a card or brand? Any I should avoid? I want to stay under about $100 for a card, 4 SATA ports, probably PCIe.
Are the port multiplier types worth consideration? They have 4 SATA in, and 1 SATA out…no connection to the expansion bus.
