I have a bar chart in Excel 2010 that has 14 lines in it.
The first 11 lines have thick lines in the chart, the last 3 have thinner lines. I want to make them all the same weight.
I cannot find a way to do this.
Also, the first 11 do not seem to have all of the same attribute choices available that the last 3 do.
I inherited this spreadsheet with the chart and added those last three lines to the table.
Anyone know how I do this?
Thanks,
Jeff

AskWoody_MVPFebruary 6, 2013 at 7:56 pm #1373352It would take a lot of work to re-create a scenario like this with all the data needed to be entered. And what would be the chances that we have duplicated what you are trying to achieve? If you could you please post a sample in a workbook to work with, I would like to help you. I am not as familiar with charts as some other members that may be able to rattle out the answer.

I understand that and wasn’t expecting anyone to rebuild the chart. I have attached the sheet here.
So, if you look this, there are two charts. I am only dealing with the first one labeled 911 Trunks.
The three lines at issue are labeled CO, NE, NM.
The lines are not the same thickness as the other ones (ignore the line for Cumulative, that is how we want it).
Also, I have found that if I add data for any of those three lines in the upper tables, the lines in the chart do not display up and down like the other ones but go to the side.
I know I must have done something incorrectly or have a setting wrong, but have no idea how to fix it.
So, anyone who can help, please let me know.
Thanks,

From looking at this, you haven’t changed anything other than adding a lot of numbers.
The lines that indicate CO, NE and NM are still a different width than the other lines and those three are not up and down by month like the others.
Can you explain what you did? Did you upload the wrong version of the sheet?
Also, I still don’t understand why the available edit options for CO, NE and NM are different than the other ones.

Okay, I can see that you changed the chart type, but what did you change it to? I have attempted to select column as the type, since that goes up and down, bar goes across, but then the line indicators become shorter.

I must be missing something.

Right click the narrow bar. Click the arrow next to the shape outine (2nd from right in picture where it says “Series ID”). Select weight and you should be good to go.

AskWoody LoungerFebruary 8, 2013 at 11:08 am #1373739I’m still unclear on what you’re asking but based on your last post I think you want to expand the data table to include all the series plotted. It seems that the real estate used for the table is limited in size by Excel. Changing the font size permits more data to be displayed but then makes it unreadable. I would drop the data table and publish that separately directly from Excel. Another option would be to CAMERA the data into your CHART tab and simply turn on the legend.

I have no idea what the camera view would do but that is not an acceptable solution.
This sheet is part of a multiple sheet workbook that has charts and data that I use to transfer to a PowerPoint report that is sent out on a weekly basis.
Regardless, although it is not posted here for some reason, Maud provided the answer I needed. which was to select the data line that I needed to correct and then change it’s shape from line to column. I don;t know why they were set to line, but this fixed my issue.
