I have Verizon FIOS and the router does not cover the whole house. Three years ago I installed a Netgear WN3000RP extender, which solved the problem. Recently the WN3000RP has been dropping the signal several times an hour. I bought a TRENDNet Powerline 500 Wireless kit to replace the Netgear. Unfortunately, the TRENDNet only works if both pieces are plugged into the same circuit. That would mean running a new line from the 3rd floor to the 1st floor to use the TRENDNet. Does anyone have any better suggestions?

Since the extender worked…replace the extender. All wifi dies over time.

        All devices die eventually. 🙂

        cheers, Paul

True, but wifi transmitters in particular exhibit symptoms of diminishing range (and increased heat so efficiency is being lost) for many months before they die or other symptoms (drop offs and slow downs or loss of transmission connection speed usually) force people to finally get a new box.

Thanks. I was hoping for more than 3 years from the extender. My computers typically last twice as long.
