Just to see if these “dribbles” can be controlled a bit better
Susan Bradley Patch Lady/Prudent patcher
I got this early this morning outside my active hours of 8:00 AM to 2:00 AM, but it did not show up in Update history, nor my OS Build number.
Now it’s waiting in Windows Update to be downloaded and installed.ย I’ll see how that goes.
KB5022913 Cumulative Update for Windows 11 Version 22H2 for x64-based Systems downloaded and installed without hiccups.ย I’ve already checked out the “ghost” update I got this morning, but I’ll go back through this one, too.ย Now running:
Windows 11 Pro Version 22H2 (OS Build 22621.1344)
Arstechnica is my first read of the day. My first action of the day is to reconcile my checking/credit accounts. I use Notepad multiple times a day, and noticed the tabs. Then at Arstechnica I read “Major Windows 11 update adds Notepad tabs, iPhone pairing, and a dash of AI”, which had a link to “Introducing a big update to Windows 11 making the everyday easier including bringing the new AI-powered Bing to the taskbar”.
Since I had noticed the tabs in Notepad, I went exploring for the other changes and found all that my hardware supports (I don’t have Bluetooth on my desktop). Then I checked Windows Update/Update history, and the update was not listed. Next I checked Winver and the new build wasn’t listed. So I didn’t reply to your topic, because I was still puzzling out how I had the update but didn’t have the update.ย Curious.
By the time Susan posted her topic, the update appeared in Windows Update waiting for me to click the “Download and install” button, which I did and replied to Susan’s topic.
I wasn’t slighting you, @Alex5723, I was still puzzling through the “ghost” update and had yet to formulate a proper response.
If I remember correctly, we found out that MS could make changes to the Taskbar at any time, in the background, unrelated to Windows Update.
And the built in Notepad is now a CrApp, not the Program it used to be. So its “changes” may come through the MS Store, which doesn’t show up in Windows Update either.
This may explain seeing some of the changes before getting the (cough) “Moment” through Windows Update.
This may explain seeing some of the changes before getting the (cough) โMomentโ through Windows Update.
I’m aware that Store apps can update in the background.ย With the exception of the Bluetooth Phone Link (I don’t have Bluetooth on my desktop) and the Bing Search (I have Search disabled in Services) I checked all the listed “Moments” and had all of them via the “ghost” update before KB5022913 was offered through Windows Update.
Notepad fulfills my requirements for its use.ย If I want to write a document, I’ll use Word.
Microsoft ships buggy Notepad to Windows 11 Stable
Microsoft began rolling out a new feature update to Windows 11 version 22H2 yesterday. Although the update does not have an official name, it is likely what’s referred to as “Moment 2” internally…
Although this is all nice and dandy, it turns out that Microsoft has shipped buggy software to this Stable Windows 11 release, perhaps knowingly as the bug has been on the known issues list for a while. As Rafael Rivera on Twitter points out, the “Alt+F, X” shortcut is broken for the new tabbed Notepad, also available to Windows 11 Stable users via an update from the Microsoft Store…
I have Notepad pinned to my Taskbar, so one left click.
I have Notepad pinned to my Taskbar, so one left click.
Alt+F, X closes Notepad, not opens:
The shortcut is meant to close the window that is currently in focus, but instead, it attempts to close all windows. This may interrupt your workflow if you are a heavy user of Notepad because as it attempts to close all Notepad windows, you will also get a bunch of dialog boxes asking if you want to save your changes before closing the application.
Alt+F, X closes Notepad, not opens:
One left click on the red X at top right of the title bar closes it for me.
I rarely use keyboard shortcuts; the mouse is just too handy, especially with a Windows 7 style Start Menuโclick-glide-click is so easy to remember …
And with pinned favorites on the Taskbarโfogeddaboutit.
There are some interesting updates floating around in the update catalog released in the last few days.
Guinea Pig Update (for the guinea pig moments in your life)
Version and build after update: Win11Pro 22H2.22621.1344
Downloaded from Microsoft Update Catalog and manually installed:
2023-02 Cumulative Update for Windows 11 Version 22H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5022913)
Installed without error and the system rebooted without error.
========
I’m going to have great fun with the moments meme.
