I recently installed Microsoft net framework 3.5 but I don’t think I need that high a release on my computer. I originally had the 1.1 relaese but would like to go up to 2.0. I am running a Windows XP Pro SP3 operating system. Can I safely remove through the Revo Installer program the net framework 3.5 and find a website to install net framework 2.0????
thank you for any help you may give me

See the discussion beginning with this post – it is not that simple!

Ii was having no problems running at v1.1 but i needed to uninstall windows live messenger and reinstall so I used the zap messenger tool . It said to use zap messenger you needed at least v2.0 but I downloaded the 3.5 because that is where their website took me to. But I was succesful in uninstalling the windows live messenger with their tool and reinstalling it back from the microsoft website. Now I dont think i need v3.5 but v2.0 will suffice.

Unless you are desparate for disk space leave the .NET installations alone. Uninstalling .NET is often not a clean process. Frequently there seem to be “pieces” left behind that cause problems later. Additionally, if you install a program that requires a higher version of .NET you’ll just have to reinstall.

Many people have upgraded some of their programs and have found that the new versions now REQUIRE “.Net” and have never installed it and/or have blocked the useage of it. Then they can not get the new version of the program that they have been using for years, installed.

The problem is not whether you plan to upgrade to Windows 7. It would be other programs that use .NET. However, you can uninstall it if you wish.

NOTE: On an XP Pro system I have access to the Framework files for .NET 1.0,1.1,2.0,3.0,3.5 + all service packs take up about 230MB. That is less than .2 % (yes, two-tenths of one percent) of a 140GB drive. IMO, it is not worth the effort to worry about it.

If you are that short of disk space you should consider adding more to the system either with an internal or external drive.

A couple of recent updates for .NET Framework have been causing problems by not properly installing. I also have a problem with the ATI Catalyst Control Center program for my ATI 4870 video card not wanting to load properly because of some .net error, even though I fixed the .net problem. Any suggestions on that would be appreciated.

In any case, getting back to the updates. Here’s how to fix things so those updates install properly. See the attached .jpg file.
