>.NET Framework 4 Updates, Crazy Results!

Hi, does anybody understand what going on in this current series of .NET Framework 4 updates.
Just before I left for 2 weeks vacation on 25 April, my update history registered 11 updates for the .NET4
Four of them were installed twice! 2600217, 2468871, 2656351 and 2533523. Additionally installed were
2736428, 2487367 and 2742595. OK so far seems OK but queer with the double install.

I come back from my vacation in Sorrento, Italy (nice and relaxed) and turn on my PC (Win 7 HP) and off it goes again.
On 11 May it installs 10 updates to .NET 4 which is the same 5 twice! 2600217, 2487367, 2468871, 2656351 and 2533523.
On 12 May it does the same again and today it has already installed the five updates and they are all waiting again for the second run!!!!

I personally know very little about the .NET system and what functions it produces. But I do reckon that repeating the updates twice each day is a bit of an overkill.
Can anybody tell me if this is right and normal or is something mysterious happening here.

I have a full AV installation (Kaspersky Internet Security), Malwarebytes running, CCleaner and System Mechanic on the go, so I don’t think I have any nasty lurking in the system.

What is MS up to with this lot? Suggestions please, normal or NUTTY!

Hello… Have a look at this it might help explain some.Net Framework Some programs require certain “.Net versions” installed on your PC to work … Me personally …well… if my OS is running with all programs aboard and OK , I never update .Net things… Let the screaming begin….:cheers: Regards Fred

thanks for link. However I don’t have the time or inclination to select which updates to apply! I’ve just got it set to Download updates but to install when I decide.
That reminds me I was going to ask why has MS changed the update method? I used to get a warning that UD were available to install in the bottom right box. Now that doesn’t seem to appear ,only in the hidden icons extension and only for a short time. If you miss it it just links to shutdown. Even if you want to review UD and do an update first, Shutdown still does it all again! Weird.

Sorry RetiredGeek and jwlitalka I should have replied to your suggestions. I didn’t succeed in trying to uninstall .net 4 because every time I came up against the message that it was unable to access folder config.msi. For some reason .NET insists on writing to this directory (also I found that Adobe Reader X had the same problem so I have uninstalled that).
I tried all ways to grab ownership of folder config.msi as Administrator, as the only user etc, I deleted it and replaced it with a new folder but nothing seemed to work. I was getting more and more confused with who owned what folders and files and all the resulting complications so I gave up and fixed the problem ‘at source’ you might say by hiding the .NET4 updates in Windows update history. My system has been much quieter since then!
I now see from later on that RetiredGeek has had the same problem (KB2656351 Dot Net on a Rampage! 2013-06-01) and offered a different solution. I may try that later when I’m feeling bold!

Sounds like a corrupted .net install. The best way to get rid of the constant .Net updates is to uninstall all .net versions and reinstall .net 4 from here:
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=17851

If you get a program that asks for an earlier .net install, do a Google search for the download file of that version.
