    Greetings All-

I didn’t know where to put this post, so here it is.  My main PC runs WIN 10 Pro, version 22H2.  My laptop runs WIN 11 Pro, version 23H2.  Both have the April updates. My main PC is connected to my router via ethernet cable.  My laptop is connected via wireless.  Up until a few days ago, both PCs could see each other in Explorer via the sharing protocol.  Sometimes the laptop would not be visible, but always, my laptop could see the shared E drive on my PC.  I’m not sure when it happened because my laptop was shut down for a few days.  It may be associated with the recent April updates, but I can’t be sure.  At any rate, my WIN 10 E drive is no longer listed under network   If I manually type in the address, it gives an error message that I can no longer remember.  I have messed around with some settings, but I must confess my ignorance when it comes to network and sharing set ups.  As always, any help would be appreciated.

      Some quick suggestions:
Can you ping the other computer from each one?
There have been some reports of networks being changed from Private to Public. Check to be sure that both devices are on Private network and discoverable.
Control Panel\Network and Sharing Center – check the NICs and see if turning off IPV6 helps.

Both PCs say private network.  I turned off IPV6 on both.  No changes.

Before doing either, I tried manually typing \\computer name\e into the explorer address bar.  This time it connected, but the desktop’s name wasn’t listed in the hierarchy, and when I logged off and back on, it had disappeared.

I tried pinging (both the IPV4 address and the default gateway) and that seems normal.  I didn’t know which address to ping.  I’m really uneducated in setting up networks.  I don’t even know how I managed to get things working in the first place.

If you want to retain the connection on startup, in Explorer, highlight “This computer.”
Choose “Map network drive”  (I am using StartAllBack on Win11, yours may look different).
You can use computer name\share point or (if you have assigned a static ip address to the device) IP address\share point and then “Reconnect at sign in.” If the destination device has a different ID/password you can add that. This should make a persistent connection.

Just fired up my laptop today, and everything is back the way it was.  I wish I understood what is going on.  At least for now–problem solved.
