I’m not sure where this post should be filed, but lets start here.
I have had Windows 10 for real installed sense last August, the real release and I always install all upgrades as they come.
I also have a windows 7 pro system and it has the same problem.
Sometime in the past couple of weeks the following problem has started.
In my local network I have a Windows 2012 server which I also keep updated. Just server no domain
I keep all my files on that server and have even pointed word and excel to the server folders.
There are a couple of files I use daily so I have shortcuts on my desktop for them.
    Example: \filesvrzzzworking projectssome file name.xls
Here is the problem. I can no longer access the “filesvr” via it’s name.
If I use the IP address everything works.
If I use Windows File Manager the same problem, I can get to the Server only by IP address.
Keep in mind that everything was working correctly until a couple of weeks ago.

Has anything happened to the Windows Firewall settings?

      I always have to set
File and Printer Sharing (SMB-In) Profile: Private Enabled: Yes
to be able to connect properly to PCs in a workgroup.

Thanks for the reply. My server is headless so I seldom look at it.
To make a long story short, I have found the problem.
My battery backup battery had gone bad and we had an extended power outage.
When the server came backup it did not know the network so it went unknown.
After I rebooted the router the network problem cleared up, everything is good.

I’m glad you found the problem! My idea was a bit of a long shot…
