    Hi,

I’ve got a 3month old HP PC, just rebuilt from Recovery disks with very basic config, little extra software, and no extra hardware running Win 7 Pro (upgraded from the supplied Home Premium).

When I listed the Devices and Printers I was missing a USB-connected OKI ML3390 dot matrix printer. Nowhere to be seen. I happen to right click Properties on the CPU icon at the top and it listed two sections – one for the CPU and one for the dot matrix printer …

I have no idea why this has happened, and how to separate them – can anyone explain this?

    Thanks,
    DK

      Thanks chowur.

I can’t get to the PC yet today but on my own machine that changes the grouping of the icons but I’m not sure it will affect my problem. If you right click on your Pc/laptop icon you will get the top half of the window I displayed above, and if you right click on a printer you get something like the bottom half … in my case I get them merged into one.
I’m concerned that I can ‘Remove Device’ for the machine itself! That looks like it only appears for printers on my own machine.

I’ll report back when I can try it on the machine in question.

It looks like the PC has been setup as a print server.

What happens if you click on print server properties on the toolbar?

That’s a good thought Browni – I don’t have access to the Pc yet (it’s remote) but I have used the Print Server Properties button to set up this OKI printer. If it’s that simple, that’s great, and there’s no problem.
      Have you seen this before?
      I hadn’t haven’t noticed it in Win 7.

      Cheers
