All of a sudden for the first time my taskbar clock now shows the day of the week. (I kind of like it) how did I do THAT?

Bruce,
What a timely post! I somehow did the same thing and I can not undo it! The tool bar is not locked and I didn’t see where in the Task Bar and Start Menu to check the size of the icons . . . I prefer all the screen space possible. What did I do and how do I undo it? (Once I get it back to normal, I promise to lock the task bar . . .
)
Thanks, as always! Ok, I REALLY did something wrong now. The bottom of my browser is covering the Start button but if I move it, I only have a Start button on the desktop.
Cherie,
I think you can just grab the top of the taskbar with your mouse and pull it down to reduce it from a double to a single stack. I haven’t actually figured out how to get it back down to the original (no DOW) size, yet. Just curious, have you installed anything recently, windows-wise? I’m trying to remember if I did.
kip
Kip,
It just won’t drag down to one row but it will drag halfway up the screen! I can’t even imagine the use. I have downloaded a program for capturing screen shots – Screen Shot 32 (which is great, by the way, and, most important –
)
I think I was adding icons to the toolbar when this happened.
If we find the answer anywhere, it will be here.
Cherie ~
Ok…let’s try this:
Bruce,
I checked my settings and they were already as you suggested. I’ve spent more time searching Microsoft and I can’t find anything that applies. The only solution I have been able to find so far is to delete the quick launch toolbar (which I need) and then I am able to drag the toolbar back to normal size. I wonder what the
I did to cause this!
If you think of something, please let me know. I certainly appreciate it.
Ack. This is quickly becoming one of those annoying little problems that is not worth spending any time over, yet just drives me crazy!!!! I have played in the display settings, looking for a way to increase the font size of the clock, which is why I believe the DOW started showing up in the first place, with no success. Bruce I have been using WMP9 and it’s minimized bar for months, and the DOW just showed up yesterday. I did turn off “Internet Time” (which I didn’t know was there), but that’s the only directly clock related thing I’ve done. Something has changed the font settings for the clock. For now I’m going to move on to more important things, but it really does get to me when something like this happens!
kip
Hi, Cherie ~
If you had the settings already as suggested, you would in fact not have the quick launch showing.
The only other thing I can think of that may help would be:
OK Ive been doing a little research (nothing like rebooting 5 times in succession!!!) I was thinking about System Restore, and when I went in to find a Restore point that worked, lo and behold but there’s a “Installed Windows Media Codec” restore point on Monday Mar 17 at 9:07pm (must’ve been leprechauns!!!) Now a little further investigating and I did have “download codecs automatically” checked in WMP9>Tools>Options. The clock, once System Restored to immediately before this point, is the same ol’ clock I used to have. Setting to a point after this Restore Point, and the clock is the new style, complete with DOW (which I can’t seem to change any other way).
Ack Ack Ack. Now this is not entirely conclusive. But that’s kind of vile don’t you think if WMP is messing in the reg without bothering to tell you about it???
Cherie, if you can, see if the same restore point exists for your system. I’d be interested to know.
BTW anyone know of a way to examine the changes that System Restore actually makes?
(spending WAYYYY too much time at this….)
kip
Hi Kip,
I did a system restore and you are right, the toolbar corrected itself. I did not have the codec situation you mentioned but it is interesting that I had upgraded to Windows Media Player 9 a couple of days ago and then Wednesday, I decided to use another media player. Since WMP 9 can not be uninstalled, I decided to restore to the system point before the upgrade but even though there is a restore point at that time, the system will not restore to that date or any date before it!
With the restore I was able to do, the toolbar is back to normal. HOWEVER, that is the ADMIN toolbar. Guess what just happened to my toolbar? Same thing and I do not want to restore again because I’ve just reinstalled other software…You are right- -too much time–but maybe someday…
In the meantime,
Let me know if you discover anything else.
Thanks.
