There is a mention of a Pro to Enterprise update. Does that mean there’s a way to actually buy an Enterprise license if you’re a small business and don’t need a gazillion copies?

Nope, you still need to get a full Enterprise license (which can be had for small organizations – but it’s still Enterprise, not Pro).

I think maybe Woody misunderstood the question.

I too, as a small business owner, would like to be able to consider Enterprise for a very small number of seats (e.g., 2).

Woody, do you know of a way that I haven’t been able to see for that to be feasible?

It would be nice if Microsoft’s “Small businesses can just use Pro” philosophy were reasonable. Or even more ideally, if they’d make an “Ultimate” version available.

Unfortunately, as it is, Pro is more like a fancy home version, rather than an affordable Pro version.

There are sneaky ways to qualify for Enterprise pricing. I wrote about it three years ago:

@Noel I suppose your claims about Windows 10 Pro are in relation to it being downgraded recently and some of the policies being made non-functional, at least in the supported way because there are workarounds.

Businesses running the professional version of Windows 10 can no longer block access to the Windows Store.
Following an update the function is now available only on the more expensive Windows 10 Enterprise version, as well as the Education edition.

Yes, Ultimate was a very useful version because it was the retail version equivalent functionally with Enterprise in Windows 7.

In this business you can never make everyone happy. Woody’s article is about Windows 10 and not about its competitors which had those features as you say maybe 18 years ago, 17 years ago…
Windows is still around and has never seriously implemented Access Based Enumeration while Netware which had this worthwhile feature is no longer around.
Someone, somewhere was giving another example. Does McDonald’s make the best burger on the planet? The answer is obviously no, but what matters is that McDonald’s are the best sellers of a burger on the planet.

And even Microsoft Plus! with voice commands for Windows Media Player came out in 2001.

You’re right, browser extensions start with IE 5 in 1999. But browser extensions for Edge started in… well, they haven’t started yet in “real” Win10, eh? 🙂
